Federation University Australia Opens Fully Funded PhD Scholarship for International Students
Are you passionate about Mining Engineering, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering? Federation University Australia is inviting applications for its industry-funded PhD Scholarship 2026 on the research project “Oxidation Behaviour of Broken Ore in Sub-Level Open Stopes (SLOS) at CSA Mine.” The scholarship is open to both domestic and international applicants and offers generous financial support for the duration of the research project.
This project is conducted in partnership with Harmony Gold (Australia) Pty Ltd – CSA Mine, giving successful applicants the opportunity to work on a real-world mining challenge while collaborating with industry experts.

Research Project
The PhD research focuses on understanding the oxidation behaviour of broken ore in underground copper mining operations.
Research activities include:
- Underground sample collection

- Development of practical solutions to improve underground mining productivity
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be eligible for admission into a PhD programme.
- Be willing to study full-time.
- Have a background in one or more of the following:
- Mining Engineering
- Geological Engineering
- Geology
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
Experience in laboratory testing, mineralogy, geochemistry, data analysis, or mine operations will be an advantage.
